Alaska Salesperson Reciprocity Requirements
The Alaska Real Estate Commission does not offer formal licensing reciprocity. However, if you’re a real estate agent licensed in another state and wish to also have a real estate license in Alaska, you may qualify for licensing by endorsement. In this guide, we’ll explain everything you need to know, as well as all of the forms, requirements, and applications you’ll need to obtain your real estate license in Alaska with ease.
Alaska License Portability and Reciprocity

Unfortunately, Alaska doesn’t offer reciprocity with other states. However, you may qualify for licensing by endorsement. Here are the steps you can take to get a real estate license in Alaska:
Salesperson
You must have an active real estate license in another state and have worked in the real estate profession within the past 6 months.
Have a detailed license history sent directly to the Alaska Real Estate Commission by your current licensing authority and by all jurisdictions in which you have ever held a real estate license.
Provide evidence of one of the following:
Pre-Licensing course in the state where you are currently licensed equivalent to the 40-hour Alaska Pre-Licensing course completed within 24 months immediately preceding date of application, AND evidence of completion of the 6-hour Alaska Law Course,
ORProvide evidence of completion of the 40-hour Alaska Pre-Licensing course.
Pass the Alaska Out of State License Recognition Endorsement examination with Pearson VUE.
Exam scores are only valid for 6 months from the date of the exam.
Be sponsored by a current and active Alaska broker.
Submit proof of Errors and Omissions insurance coverage.
Complete the Salesperson by Endorsement application.
Associate Broker/Broker
You must have an active broker license in another state and have 36 months of active and continuous licensee experience within the past 60 months.
Applicants who are not yet licensed brokers, but who wish to become brokers in Alaska, may have the time worked as a real estate licensee in another state applied toward the 24 months of active and continuous licensee experience required to become an Alaska broker.
Have a detailed license history sent directly to the Alaska Real Estate Commission by your current licensing authority and by all jurisdictions in which you have ever held a real estate license.
Provide evidence of one of the following:
Broker Pre-Licensing course in the state where you are currently licensed equivalent to the 30-hour Alaska broker training course completed within 24 months immediately preceding date of application,
ORProvide evidence of completion of the 30-hour Alaska broker training course
Provide evidence of completion of the 6-hour Alaska Law Course
Pass the Alaska Out of State License Recognition Endorsement examination with Pearson VUE.
Exam scores are only valid for 6 months from the date of the exam.
Open an office in Alaska (not required for an Associate Broker License).
Submit proof of Errors and Omissions insurance coverage.
Complete the Associate Broker by Endorsement or Broker by Endorsement application.

Steps for Out-of-State Agents to Obtain an Alaska Real Estate License:
Meet the Eligibility Requirements:
You must be at least 19 years of age.
You must not be under indictment for forgery, theft, extortion, conspiracy to defraud creditors, or fraud. If seven years have lapsed, you may be eligible.
Provide Proof of Licensure:
You must have an active real estate license in another state and have worked in the real estate profession within the past six months.
A detailed license history must be sent directly to the Alaska Real Estate Commission by your current licensing authority and by all jurisdictions in which you have ever held a real estate license.
Provide Evidence of Course Completion:
Copies of your education certificates or a transcript are required.
Provide either:Evidence of completing of the Pre-Licensing course you took to obtain your current license which must have been completed within twenty-four (24) months immediately preceding date of application, and evidence of completion of the 6-Hour Alaska Law Course; OR
Evidence of completion of the 40-Hour Alaska Pre-Licensing course.
Pass the State Portion of the Alaska Licensing Exam:
Pass the Alaska Out-of-State License Recognition Endorsement exam with Pearson VUE. Only the State Portion of the exam is required, not the National Portion. Exam scores are only valid for six months from the date of the exam.

Obtain Sponsorship From an Alaska-Licensed Broker:
Before you can submit your application, you need to be sponsored by a current and active Alaska broker. It's important to find the right brokerage to work with, since this person will serve as your mentor as you start your new career in real estate.
Acquire Errors & Omissions Insurance:
All licensees are required to obtain and submit proof of Errors & Omissions (E&O) insurance with their application.
Complete and Submit Your Application
You must complete the “Salesperson by Endorsement” application. Applications can be submitted via online or mail.
You must include all documentation and pay the applicable fees.
