A mortgage loan originator (MLO) licensed in Kentucky is required to complete eight total hours of continuing educational annually. This includes:
- Three hours on federal mortgage-related laws
- Two hours on ethics, fraud, and consumer protection
- Two hours on traditional and non-traditional mortgage products
- One hour of Kentucky-specific education
This online self-study course satisfies the one hour of required state-specific education. Within the course, students will spend time reviewing state regulations and acts impacting mortgage loan origination activities; perusing scenarios, examples, or case studies; an completing exercises to demonstrate understanding of the content.
1 Hour KY SAFE: 2026 Kentucky Law Review

An MLO who has completed their pre-licensure education (PE) course requirements in the same year in which the license was approved is not required to complete CE within the same year.
Note: Anyone completing the 8 Hour KY Loan Processor CE course will NOT recieve NMLS credit. Students are required to submit their certificates of completion directly to their employer. The employing mortgage company or broker must maintain proof that their processors have completed the required continuing education.
Successive Years Rule:
A licensee may not take the same CE course two years in a row.
Seat Time:
Seat time will be enforced and our online course delivery system manages this requirement.

Course Completion Reporting:
Mortgage course completions are reported to the Nationwide Multistate Licensing System and Registry (NMLS). The CE Shop will report credits to the NMLS within 7 business days of course completion. The NMLS recommends completing CE prior to the 12/31 deadline as licensees are unable to apply to renew their license if their CE is not complete.
Kentucky licensees are required to complete their CE courses by November 30.
