Are you ready to begin your new career as a California real estate agent? The CE Shop has everything you need to get started and set up for success. Hi, I’m Erica with The CE Shop, here to tell you that getting your California real estate license is as easy as following these five steps.
Step 1: Education
First-time licensee candidates in California are required to take 135 hours of Pre-Licensing education consisting of three 45-hour courses. These courses are Real Estate Principles, Real Estate Practice, and Real Estate Finance. All three can be taken in person or online in a convenient do-at-your-own-pace format such as the program offered by The CE Shop.
Step 2: Course Final
After you complete all course materials, meet the minimum time requirement, and pass the practice exam, you must take a final exam for each course. The exams each consist of 100 questions and the minimum passing score is 70%.
Each final exam has to be taken in the presence of a proctor, and you’ll need to schedule an appointment with a proctor in advance. Find out more about our online proctoring process by watching this video.
Step 3: Sponsor
To start a new career in California real estate, you must have a broker sponsor you through the licensing process and to provide you with a launchpad for your new career. This broker will be your career and education mentor, and will provide you with an inside view of the day-to-day operations of being a real estate agent. It’s important to find a good fit when picking a broker to work with, because it’s a key factor to becoming successful.
Step 4: Exam and Application
The Department of Real Estate website manages state licensing exam scheduling and facilitates the licensing application process. For more information on scheduling your salesperson exam and submitting your application license, visit the DRE website here.
Step 5: Your License
Once your application is approved and you pass the state salesperson exam, DRE will issue your California real estate salesperson license. You can check on the status of your new license using DRE’s eLicensing Online website. With your new license, a great mentor, and the California real estate knowledge gained from your Pre-Licensing education, you’re now ready to begin your new career.
