How to Become a Real Estate Agent in New Hampshire

Requirements:

To start, you must:

  • Be at least 18 years of age

  • Have a high school diploma or equivalent

Complete 40 Hours of Approved Pre-Licensing Education

To start, you must successfully complete a New Hampshire-approved 40-Hr. Pre-Licensing course. This can be completed online at your own pace. If you’re already licensed as a real estate agent in another state, you may qualify to have your New Hampshire real estate education requirements waived if you apply via reciprocity.

Pass the Course Final Exam

After you complete all course materials and pass the practice exam, there is a course final exam. To pass, you must get at least a 70% on the course final exam.

Submit a Criminal Record Report

As part of the licensing process, you are required to submit a notarized criminal history record from the New Hampshire Division of State Police.

  • Obtain a notarized criminal history record from the New Hampshire Division of State Police.

  • The report will be valid for six months.

  • If you have convictions in other jurisdictions, provide corresponding criminal history reports dated within six months.

Pass the New Hampshire State Licensing Exam

The New Hampshire salesperson real estate licensing exam is administered by PSI, and you can schedule the exam right from their website. Please Note: You must take your licensing exam within six months of starting the 40-Hour Pre-Licensing course. The commission strictly enforces this rule.

  • The test consists of 120 questions.

  • There are two portions, covering both state and national requirements.

  • You’ll need to get 70% of the questions right to pass.

  • You will have four hours to complete the exam.

Select a sponsoring broker.

After passing your licensing exam, you must become associated with a current and active sponsoring broker. This broker will be a career and education mentor providing you with an inside view into the day-to-day operations of a real estate agent.

  • What kind of real estate agents are they looking for?

  • Is there room to grow with the brokerage?

Complete and Submit Your Application

Complete and submit the New Hampshire Real Estate Salesperson Application form. You must include the following information:

  • Original passing score sheet from your licensing exam

  • Three, character affidavits from individuals not related to you by blood or marriage

  • Application fee (payable to the Treasurer, State of New Hampshire)
