This course provides 30 hours of instruction in basic appraisal principles, which satisfies a portion of the Appraisal Qualifications Board (AQB) qualifying education for aspiring professionals. Topics include an introduction to the appraisal profession, real estate concepts and property characteristics, ownership, interests, and rights, title and transferring real estate, and an introduction to contracts and leases appraisers may find in real estate. The course also dives into types of and approaches to value, influences on real estate, economic principles, and real estate markets. The course closes on the ethics in theory and practice of appraisal along with valuation bias, fair housing, and equal opportunity that will be top of mind in an appraisal practice.

Alabama State Requirement Details for Appraiser Trainee

Core Hours Required by the State: 87 hours

  • Basic Appraisal Procedures - 30 hours
  • Basic Appraisal Principles - 30 hours
  • USPAP Course - 15 hours
  • 8-hour Valuation Bias and Fair Housing Laws and Regulations course

Non Core Hours Required by the State: 4 Hours

  • Supervisory Appraiser/Trainee Appraiser Course

Beginning January 1, 2026, an 8-Hour Valuation Bias and Fair Housing Laws and Regulations course will be required for Qualifying Education.

Reporting: The state requires course completions to be reported to the state. We will report your course to the state upon completion.

Expiration Date of Course: Course expiration dates vary by course. Each individual course will have an expiration date listed in your account. See Terms & Conditions for more details.

Certificates: Once The CE Shop has received the signed affidavit, your certificate of course completion will become available to download. The CE Shop will provide students with an electronic certificate of completion, upon completion of the course. Certificates will remain in your account for a minimum of five years, should you need additional copies. Please refer to your license application to determine if you need to submit your certificate of completion with your license request. Course completion dates are recorded using Central Standard Time. Please note that the date of your certificate of completion will reflect this.

Proctored Final Exam: The state requires your final exam to be proctored.  You’ll need to schedule an appointment with an online proctor in advance. You can find full details of the proctoring process here. Upon passing the final course exam you will be asked to sign an affidavit verifying your identity as the student who completed the course and the final course exam.
