This course provides 30 hours of instruction in basic appraisal procedures, which satisfies a portion of the Appraisal Qualifications Board (AQB) qualifying education for aspiring professionals. Topics include an overview of the appraisal process and approaches, math and statistics used in appraisals, and valuation procedures. This course will also dive into location and neighborhood characteristics, architectural styles and construction types, as well as land and site characteristics. Additionally, this course will answer questions about the cost, income, and sales comparison approach alongside special and emerging appraisal techniques.

Hours Required by the State: 87 hours

  • 30-hour Basic Appraisal Principles
  • 30-hour Basic Appraisal Procedures
  • 15-Hour National USPAP Course
  • 8-hour Valuation Bias and Fair Housing Laws and Regulations course*
  • 4-hour Supervisory Appraiser/Trainee Appraiser Course

*Beginning January 1, 2026, an 8-Hour Valuation Bias and Fair Housing Laws and Regulations course will be required for Qualifying Education when earning or upgrading a credential.

Licensing Exam: The licensing exam is administered by Pearson VUE.  Registration for the state licensing exam is an entirely separate process from proctoring for your course final exam. For instructions to register for your state licensing exam and further information, please click here.

Reporting: The state does not require schools to report course completions.

Expiration Date of Course: The CE Shop’s Qualifying courses expire 180 days after the date of purchase. 

Certificates: Once The CE Shop has received the signed affidavit, your certificate of course completion will become available to download. The CE Shop will provide students with an electronic certificate of completion, upon completion of the course. Certificates will remain in your account for a minimum of five years, should you need additional copies. Please refer to your license application to determine if you need to submit your certificate of completion with your license request. Course completion dates are recorded using Central Standard Time. Please note that the date of your certificate of completion will reflect this.

Proctored Final Exam: The state requires your final exam to be proctored.  You’ll need to schedule an appointment with an online proctor in advance. You can find full details of the proctoring process here. Upon passing the final course exam you will be asked to sign an affidavit verifying your identity as the student who completed the course and the final course exam.
