At some point in life every person is involved with real estate. Since the time when early beings sought refuge in caves, the need for shelter has been a fact of life. With the great housing boom of the late 1970s and early 1980s, people began to realize that real property ownership could be a hedge against rising inflation. Today, real estate is still considered a solid investment and is rising in importance with interest rates at their lowest point since the late 1950s. Buyers are refinancing their existing mortgages or purchasing homes, enjoying home ownership in the 21st century. After many years of teaching real estate classes, I felt strongly that there was a need for a principles and practices textbook written in a clear and concise manner one that would be understandable to the novice entering the world of real estate. Furthermore, it seemed only logical to organize the textbook around the natural sequence of events in a real estate transaction. This text is divided into three parts: basic real estate concepts, the process of a sale, and other aspects of real estate.
