West Virginia State Requirement Details for Appraiser Continuing Education

Renewal Date: 9/30 every year

Hours Required by the State for renewals prior to January 1, 2026: 14 Hours

  • 7-Hour National USPAP Update Course (required every 2 years, but may be taken each year)
  • 7 additional hours of approved continuing education if 7-hour USPAP was completed or 14 hours of approved continuing education

 Hours Required by the State for renewals on or after January 1, 2026: 14 Hours

  • 7-Hour National USPAP Continuing Education Course (required every 2 years, but may be taken each year)
  • 7-hour Valuation Bias and Fair Housing Laws and Regulations course or 4-hour Valuation Bias and Fair Housing Laws and Regulations course (see explanation below)
  • Additional continuing education required:
    • No additional education required if 7-hour USPAP and 7-hour Valuation Bias and Fair Housing Laws and Regulations courses were completed
    • 3 hours of approved continuing education required if 7-hour USPAP and 4-hour Valuation Bias and Fair Housing Laws and Regulations courses were completed
    • 14 hours of approved continuing education required if no other courses were completed

Beginning January 1, 2026, a Valuation Bias and Fair Housing Laws and Regulations course will be required for Continuing Education. The first time a Licensee completes the Continuing Education requirement for this course, the course length must be 7 hours. If a Licensee successfully completed an 8-hour course as part of their Qualifying Education, they have satisfied this requirement. Every 2 calendar years thereafter, the course length must be at least 4 hours. This new course requirement is included in the 28 total hours for a 2-year renewal.

Note: Except for the 7-Hour USPAP course, no course can be repeated for credit within 3 renewal cycles. The USPAP course may be taken each year, although it is only required every 2 years.

Reporting: The state requires course completions to be reported to the state. We will report your course to the state upon completion.

Expiration Date of Course: Course expiration dates vary by course. Each individual course will have an expiration date listed in your account. See Terms & Conditions for more details.

Certificates: Immediately upon appraisal course completions, The CE Shop will provide students with an electronic copy of the course certificate of completion. Certificates will remain in your account for a minimum of five years, should you need additional copies at a later time. Please refer to your renewal application to determine if you need to submit your certificate(s) of completion with your renewal. Course completion dates are recorded using Central Standard Time. Please note that the date on your certificate of completion will reflect this.

License Renewal Process: The process to renew in this state is to log in to the licensing system online and follow the prompts to renew.
