How to Become a Real Estate Agent in Vermont

Requirements:

  • Be 18 years of age or older

1

Complete 40 Hours of Approved Vermont Pre-Licensing Education

To start, you must successfully complete 40 hours of Pre-Licensing real estate education.

2

Pass The CE Shop Course Final Exam

After you complete all the course materials and pass the practice exam, there is a course final exam. The minimum passing score is 75%.

3

Pass The Vermont Real Estate Exam Online

PSI administers the national portion of the Vermont real estate licensing exam. There are 100 questions on the national portion and 2.5 hours are allowed for the exam. For more information, see the PSI candidate handbook.

The Vermont state licensing exam is administered by the Vermont Office of Professional Regulation (OPR). The Vermont State Examination is a part of the application process, and a link to the exam will be provided within the online application. The state portion is an untimed, open book, paper-based exam with 50 questions.

4

Select a sponsoring broker.

After passing your licensing exam, you must become associated with a current and active sponsoring broker. This broker will be a career and education mentor providing you with an inside view into the day-to-day operations of a real estate agent.

Here are some questions to consider when searching for the right broker:

  • What is their reputation, both locally and nationally?

  • What kind of real estate agents are they looking for?

  • Are they technologically advanced and up-to-date with the latest systems?

  • How do they support their agents with education and training?

  • What kind of commission structure do they offer?

  • Do they offer benefits?

  • Do they provide their agents with leads and marketing material?

  • Is there room to grow with the brokerage?

5

Complete the Vermont Real Estate Salesperson Application
